Mechanical Engineer*

The Mechanical Engineer is a hands-on position designing packaging of laser diodes, laser diode assemblies, systems, and equipment. Additional responsibilities include: production support, supplier management, and technical sales support. The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Vice President of Engineering.
Specific Responsibilities:

Design mechanical systems and components related to laser diodes, laser diode assemblies, optics, optical fiber components and medical laser systems.

Create and Manage SolidWorks design models and drawings.

Manage the procurement of parts and components working directly with vendors to ensure clear communication and satisfactory results.

Develop, specify, acquire, install, and qualify test and assembly equipment for release to production. In some cases, develop in-house packaging processes and/or production lines from initial concepts through volume production and customer acceptance.

Develop and execute new test procedures including validation, documentation, and training.

Assist with the continual improvement and document operational procedures and protocols.

Support sales with technical support to ensure customer requests and product inquiries are adequately addressed.
Desired Skills and Experience
Applicable experience:
-
SolidWorks design experience
-
Laser diode package design, including thermal management
-
Development of semi-automated production fixtures for laser assembly and burn-in
-
Laser diode assembly processes involving; micro-positioning, solder die bonding, fiber alignments, fiber splicing and wire bonding

Product design & development of medical laser equipment
Position Requirements:

BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering

3-10 years of experience with laser diodes or laser systems

Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Solidworks.

Zemax and LabView programming are both desired.

Machine shop prototyping skills desired
