We are one of the few remaining near-infrared semiconductor fabs in the United States - and proud of it.

Sheaumann Laser specializes in the design and manufacture of semiconductor laser diodes and modules for sensing, imaging, telecom, navigation, and illumination applications for the industrial, defense, and medical industries. We also produce space-qualified lasers for data transmission from satellites.  All of our R&D and production activities are efficiently housed in one centralized facility near Boston, giving us complete control over all processes and the flexibility to create custom solutions for OEMs with unique requirements. 

 

Sheaumann Laser, Inc. is a privately-held corporation that was founded in 2005 by Jim Hsieh, a pioneer in the packaged semiconductor industry whose Massachusetts-based company Lasertron became a leading producer of lasers during the fiber optic telecommunications boom of the 1980s and 1990s. In 2015, Sheaumann merged with Axcel Photonics (also owned by Hsieh since 2004), which added epitaxial growth and wafer processing capabilities to Sheaumann’s design and packaging competencies. At a time when laser manufacturing companies are frequently changing ownership and moving production overseas, Sheaumann’s leadership team continues to stay constant and uphold its vision of keeping manufacturing at home.

OUR FOUNDRY

Sheaumann’s team of over 30 engineering, manufacturing, sales, and administrative personnel operates out of an 18,000 square foot (750 m2) facility. Our class 1000 and 10,000 cleanrooms provide an optimal environment for complex semiconductor laser manufacturing processes, including:

CUSTOM LASERS

Our small-scale wafer growth and processing equipment allows us to provide custom solutions for projects of any size, at any wavelength from 780nm to 1080nm. (1120nm to 1875nm capabilities will be added by 2021.) By tweaking some of the many fabrication processes on even a molecular level, we can tailor the laser diode's characteristics to optimize its performance in your specific system.  Since each 3" wafer yields thousands of laser diode chips, we can easily scale up to large production once your project takes off.
